We flew in on Thursday night. We stayed At Bally's resort. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. As much as you are in your room though, it was fine. We were exhausted and starving so we just got a sandwich ($30.00 for 2 subs!), and went to our room.
Friday we got up and ready and went out to find somewhere for breakfast. We ended up at Serendipity in front of Caesars hotel. OMG!! It was delicious. I got these balsamic strawberry waffles. They were huge & had homemade whip cream on them & fresh strawberries marinated in balsamic vinegar & then drizzled with chocolate sauce! It was heavenly. I know those waffles will be in heaven. I'm so sad I didn't take a picture of them! Joe said his was good too. He had a hangover omlette.
After that we explored a TON of the hotels. They are so huge!!! Caesars was so cool. I love that it really looked like you were in Rome. The ceiling is painted like the sky...it looks so real. There were beautiful fountains, statues, etc. We also went into Bellagio, Flamingo, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Venetian, Palazzo. Our feet were so tired! HA!!
That evening we went out to eat with Jon & Sarah to Firefly in Henderson! YUM!! It is a Tapas restaurant. Something different, but cool & the food was great too! It was fun hanging out with the two of them & catching up! We had a great first day!
Saturday, we slept in a bit and ended up driving to Red Rock Canyon. It was so cool there. We saw a woman pass out. I helped her sit up & then got all of the weeds out of her hair while we waited for her husband and friend to come get her. I was freaking out & no one else was too bothered. Weird! Then we took the 13 mile scenic drive around. There were lots of stop offs to hike, climb, or take pictures. We did stop at quite a few. I think we ended up being there for a few hours. It was cool to me to see all of the Joshua trees and cactus. We saw a couple of tortoise, but no horses or burros. No snakes either...praise Jesus!!! It is so neat how rocky and jagged it is there. So different from the mountains in the east. The west is not lush at all, it's a different kind of beauty.
Saturday evening we did some more exploring on the strip. We went to Circus Circus. I thought they had tons of claw machines, but they only had a few and they were cheesy. That place was a dump. I would never stay there. That being said, if we had the kids out there I would take them in. They would have a good time on all of the rides & carnival games. We also went into the Luxor. That was super cool. I loved all of the egyptian stuff. Finally we went to Stratosphere. WHOA!! Talk about high up. The inside observation deck, sort of, freaked me out. The glass was angled & I just worried what would happen if someone fell onto it? Would they go through? I mean, I doubt that would really happen, but the thought was just creepy. The outside deck was cool...lots of rails! I'm glad we checked it out, it was neat to see the city all lit up, at night, up above!
Sunday was another lazy morning & then we went and spent a while at Jon & Sarah's house. They, along with Sarah's parents cooked a nice "Thanksgiving" meal. We stayed there for quite a while talking and laughing. We had a great time.
After that is was off to dinner & a show. We went to Kahunaville in Treaure Island for dinner. That was another meal I should have photographed. I had macadamia crusted mahi mahi. It was out of this world. I was STUFFED!!!! We then saw the show Mystere' a Cirque De Solei show. Wow! The strength these acrobats have is amazing!!! The show was cool, a little interesting. I almost felt like I needed to be taking something to really understand the story, but it was cool none the less. :) Oh and after that we went down to Freemont Street to see the big screen above & the spray paint artist. We also saw a magician & a guy that made drums out of buckets & water jugs. Lots of crazy characters too! We bought the boys a cool Spiderman painting. I am still amazed that it is all done with spray paint!!
Monday we went to visit J&S again. We also tried to squeeze in more of the hotels we wanted to see. We went in MGM, and that place is massive. I was on the hunt for Will Hoge. We looked around at everything in there for an hour, and no sign of Will. Come to find out he had left the day before. HA!! We also went into New York New York, and Excalibur. Both were neat. The kids would have enjoyed Excalibur. Our plan was to go to a comedy club that night, but we ran out of time. We wanted to see the Bellagio fountains & didn't have time for both. We skipped the show & stop to eat dinner & then see the fountains. Sadly, the wind was too strong so the fountains weren't going. Oh well, next time.
Tuesday we came home. I was ready to come home and see my kiddos!! I missed them! I can't tell you how refreshing it was to go without them though. I love taking them places, but I now know how important it is to go with just your spouse. You really get a chance to enjoy each other without any distractions. I'm not sure we can do this yearly, but if I can I sure will!! HA!!
